How to make a picture or card using buttons.
It is a very easy and good way to spend a wet afternoon with the children. It is also a good way to make personalised cards and maybe you will even be able to sell them.
To begin you need to decide on a theme. A few examples:
- Garden scene: Flowers, bees, birdhouse etc
- Children's picture: teddy bears, balloons, aeroplanes, fairy etc
- Sea scene: seagull, shells, fish, puffin etc
- Wedding: Bride and Groom, cake, doves etc
- Christmas: christmas tree, stars angels, Santa etc
What you need:
- Buttons
- Plain frame (if making a picture)
- Box of paints or felt tip pens
- PVA glue
- Pair of wire cutters
- Stanley knife (or sharp craft knife)
The buttons come as 2 holes or with shanks. The shanks need to be removed with a pair of wire cutters and flattened using a sharp knife (metal ones need to be flattened with a file). If preferred you can leave the shanks on and push them through a hole in the card so that they lie flat and then cover the backs with another piece of card.
It is best to position the buttons on the card first before gluing and lightly mark with a pencil where you want them to go. Paint or colour the background (using cross-stitch is also popular) and when the paint is dry use PVA glue to put the buttons where you have marked
Have fun!!
